The monastery of San Martin Pinario is a 20,000m2 Benedictine monastery founded in the tenth century, which includes different styles such as Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical.

It had its origin in an oratory dedicated to St. Mary called the Corticela that was demolished in the late ninth century, except for the chapel, which today is part of the Cathedral of Santiago, when King Afonso III the Great and Bishop Sisnando began the new cathedral building.

It is currently the Major Seminary of the archdiocese of Santiago de Compostela, headquarters of the University School of Social Work, a center attached to the University of Santiago de Compostela, as well as the headquarters of the Compostela Theological Institute. It also houses the Diocesan Historical Archive of Santiago de Compostela.

The Hospedería San Martín Pinario, located in the historic center of Santiago de Compostela and in front of the Cathedral, has been welcoming pilgrims who come to visit the tomb of the Apostle since the end of the 16th century.

Today, as then, the courtesy, the faithfully reconstructed environment and the atmosphere will make the final goal of the journey even more pleasant.
